Old Mutual Douglas travel in good form to North One West leaders Vale of Lune on Saturday, and there’s going to be some disappointed players not making the cut.

Guy Wood, Craig McGee and Dom Winrow return to the squad, and given a clean bill of health after training on Thursday, there will be a few enviable selection dilemmas.

Although utility forward Ralph Clark has a back injury and Akkie Van Den Berg is unavailable, places in the forward pack are at a premium.

Simon Hoddinott has recovered from food poisoning which curtailed his match last week, and Filipe Pereira and Carl Markl-Ferns are in an arm wrestle for the hooker spot.

If Glyn Hooson-Owen ties up a front-row berth, Chris Bollen will again be a formidable presence on the bench, and in good company as fireman McGee’s return puts him at loggerheads with Liam Kirkpatrick, Sam Games and Paul Leivers for the three back-row places. Winrow will also be in the mix at second-row and back-row.

Although Guy Fawkes night has been and gone, sparks are flying at training and McGee’s expertise comes in handy.

Bryn Snellgrove and Shaun Wyllie are embroiled in a contest at scrum-half, and although it’s ’advantage Snellgrove’ at present, it’s clear Wyllie could force his way back and Snellgrove to number 10.

Outside this battle, Aidan O’Shea has laid down a marker at centre with two strong performances at Stockport and Port-e-Chee, and Max Morley-Green would be unlucky to be budged from fullback after a scintillating display in defence and attack against Manchester.

Conor Stephens maintains a level of performance hard to ignore, and player-coach Carl Murray is undergoing treatment on a knee injury that is responding well.

Winger Nick Brooker’s try-scoring record keeps him inked in, and James Maddrell and Adam Boyd are a tasty choice for the remaining speedsters’ berth.

Douglas squad from: Simon Hoddinott, Filipe Pereira, Glyn Hooson-Owen, Max Singer, Paul Lievers, Craig McGee, Sam Games, Liam Kirkpatrick, Bryn Snellgrove, Carl Murray, Nick Brooker, Aiden O’Shea, Conor Stephens, James Maddrell, Max Morley-Green, Dom Winrow, Carl Markl-Ferns, Guy Wood, Adam Boyd and Shaun Wyllie.
