With various postponements in South Lancs/Cheshire Division Three (South) Ramsey took advantage by beating Newton-le-Willows 30-0 at Mooragh Park on Saturday to jump into second in the standings.

Other sides do have games in hand, but it’s points on the board that count.

An early Dan Bonwick penalty got Ramsey going and Ethan Benjamin’s 14th-minute try, converted by Bonwick gave them a 10-0 lead.

Newton-le-Willows put up stiff resistance and the remainder of the first half was scoreless.

Ten minutes into the second half Bonwick added another penalty to stretch the Ramsey lead and then shortly afterwards went in for a try to make it 18-0. As Newton-le-Willows tired in the closing stages Jake Severs wriggled in from close range to extend the Ramsey lead before.

Jarred Callister secured the try bonus point with 10 to go. Bonwick’s conversion was good for a 15-point personal haul.

Reports in Tuesday’s Examiner.
