The TLI National Road Race Championships will be held in the island this weekend.

The Manx Viking Wheelers-organised event will feature a time trial and circuit race on Saturday, followed by a road race on Sunday.

A prologue-style time trial over five miles kicks off the action at Jurby Motordrome on Saturday morning beginning at 9am and taking in three laps of the 1.7-mile track.

The crit championship race then takes place at the same venue in the afternoon over 15 laps.

Sunday’s road race championship takes place on a shortened Stuggadhoo circuit where riders will cover 11 laps of an eight-kilometre.

Local professionals Tyler Hannay and Max Walker will be the clear favourites for the senior titles, while top triathlete and runner Corrin Leeming will also be one to watch over the weekend.

Ruby Oakes, although only 16 years old, will be a contender for the women’s title.

Local riders Ivan Sorby and James Kinrade will be hoping to find the podium positions in the youth categories and Jess Pickavance will be confident of taking the youth women’s honours.

British junior champion Zac Walker has entered, along with a group of very strong local junior riders including Ralph Holden, Callum Salisbury, Tyler Annis and Niall Colquitt which will make for some very exciting racing.

Isle of Man cyclists should also feature well in the veterans categories, with Rob Moneta hoping to take the V40 honours while Rob Sorby is aiming to retain his title from 2021. Mark Harrison and Juan Kinley will also be hoping to do well in their respective vets categories.

In all, there will be 11 categories with riders trying their best to win the coveted national jerseys.

Spectators are very welcome to attend throughout the weekend and there will be ample parking and food outlets available.
