Two of the UK’s most influential ska and reggae bands are to appear in the Isle of Man later this year.

2-Tone legends The Selecter have teamed up with the iconic ska group The Beat featuring Ranking Roger for a series of summer tour dates, and are set to appear at the Villa Marina on Friday, July 27.

Both groups are part of the UK 2-Tone and ska movement that exploded into life around 1979 around Birmingham and the Midlands, and were responsible for writing some of the best known songs from that era.

The Selecter were formed in Coventry, and feature original singer Pauline Black and Arthur ’Gaps’ Henderson.

They are still performing after many years of line-up changes and their songs Too Much Pressure, Missing Words and On the Radio helped define the classic ska sound, and have influenced countless groups and genres since.

The Beat featuring Ranking Roger are another of the long-surviving originators of the ska scene, and their songs Mirror in the Bathroom and their version of Tears of a Clown were chart hits on release.

They have continued to perform electrifying concerts all over the world, and also performed at the Deep South Festival, in Colby, last year.

Tickets are priced at £27.50 and will go on sale tomorrow (Friday), from 10am.

They are also available from the Villa Marina box office on 600555, the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal and from villagaiety.com
