One of the most recognisable acts of the 1980s is coming to the Isle of Man, later on this year.

Andrew Roachford, who spent much of the late 80s and 90s fronting the band bearing his surname ‘Roachford’, is to play a concert at the Villa Marina on Thursday, December 7.

Of course, anyone who was able to walk through the 1980s will be able to instantly recognise their hit song, ‘Cuddly Toy’.

The pop/rock/funk song was a major chart success on release in 1988 and, thanks to its insanely catchy chorus, opening guitar riff and constant radio airplay, seemed to lodge itself in to the subconsciousness of the nation.

‘Cuddly Toy’ has since been covered by Gary Barlow, amongst others, was included in the sound track of one of the ‘Grand Theft Auto’ series of computer games, and provided the stand out, most memorable moment of the recent Alan Partridge film, ‘Alpha Papa’.

Roachford continued to record and enjoy chart success throughout the 90s, and, after signing a mammoth seven-album deal with Columbia Records, became the label’s biggest selling UK act.

Since the start of the noughties, he has performed solo under his own name, and he has continued to record and release new material, the latest being 2013’s ‘This Beautiful Moment’.

Tickets went on sale through the Villa Gaiety Box Office, priced £18, with the support yet to be confirmed.
