More than 100 motorists were pulled over by police last night to check if they had been drinking before getting behind the wheel.

The checks were carried out around the island as part of the annual festive drink-drive campaign.

A few drivers were breathalysed at the roadside but no one was over the limit.

One vehicle and its driver were subject to a drugs search with nothing being found, and several motorists were reported for various traffic offences.

Police said many of those stopped commented that they were glad to see the Constabulary out doing these checks and they were only delayed for around a minute or two while officers had a quick chat with them.
