A mother from Braddan has been fined £500 after rowing with another woman in a school car park.

Laura Ann Jones, of Snugborough Avenue, even drove her car in front of the other woman’s vehicle to stop her leaving the car park and continue the argument.

Jones, who is 27, pleaded guilty in summary court to two offences of driving without due care or attention and using threatening behaviour or words and was fined £250 for each.

She was also banned from driving for three months and ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.

Prosecutor Michael Jelski told the court how, on July 19 at 8.55am, Jones had driven her Vauxhall Safira into Braddan School car park to drop off her children.

It was said that Jones could not get out of the car park as her path was blocked by a woman in another car who was a former friend.

The two women were said to have fallen out over a personal issue previously.

Jones sounded her car horn and shouted at the other woman and words were exchanged between the pair.

The woman was said to have made a personal comment to Jones before starting to drive away.

This sparked Jones to drive around the woman’s car and turn sharply into her path to block her way which caused a collision.

Both vehicles suffered paint damage and Jones, who still had her three children in the car, got out and started shouting, swearing and waving her arms aggressively.

Several adults and children were said to have been in the area at the time of the incident.

Police arrived and Jones continued shouting but was said to be incomprehensible.

She was arrested and escorted to a police van, then taken to police headquarters.

During an interview Jones said the other woman had made a personal comment which had caused her to snap.

She admitted causing the collision but said there had been no intent, adding that she had only wanted to stop the woman leaving so she could call the police herself.

Defending Jones in court, her advocate Peter Taylor said: ’There is a background to matters. A minor disagreement between two people has escalated and escalated until their relationship is in a terrible state.

’Ms Jones has a very deeply personal issue and has made a complaint to the police about it.

’Yes she did block the other woman in the car park which resulted in an exchange of words. A deeply hurtful insult was repeated several times to her.

’She just snapped, saw red and set off to cut her off so the police could come. It was a manoeuvre she shouldn’t have committed. Unfortunately she just couldn’t let things stop.’
