A 23-year-old apprentice electrician who was Pava sprayed by police after swearing and fighting outside 1886 bar has been fined £350.

James Scott Pringle, of Cronk Drean, Douglas, admitted an offence of being drunk and disorderly and was also ordered by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes to pay prosecution costs of £125.

Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court that police were at Villiers Square in Douglas dealing with an unrelated incident on July 3 at 2.35am when they heard shouting and swearing coming from Regent Street.

Pringle was seen aiming punches and kicks into a group of four men and police subsequently took hold of him.

However, Pringle continued to try to punch one of the men and due to his aggression, police used Pava spray to restrain him.

After being arrested and taken to police headquarters he was said to have continued to act aggressively and shout abuse at officers.

Defence advocate Peter Taylor said: ’Mr Pringle had been out with family and friends and advised me he doesn’t consume alcohol regularly.

’He had one too many and became engaged in a situation he shouldn’t have.

’It was a very painful experience being Pava sprayed and perhaps his words afterwards were coloured by that.

’It was a pleasant evening for him until this started.’

Mrs Hughes ordered Pringle to pay the fine and costs at a rate of £30 per week.
