An army reservist has been fined £600 for disorderly behaviour after refusing to leave the Villa Marina during TT race week.

Ryan Anthony Pope, aged 25, of Perwick Road, in Port St Mary, ended up spending a night in police cells over the incident.

He admitted the offence when he appeared before Magistrates on Tuesday and must also pay £125 prosecution costs.

He was also banned from entering licensed premises and purchasing or being sold alcohol for three months.

Prosecutor Michael Jelski told the court how, on June 5, police were called to the Villa Marina, where Pope had been watching the AC/DC tribute band DC/AC perform at around 11pm.

Boisterous

Staff said that he had been boisterous and was spilling his drink over people so had been asked to leave.

Pope refused to leave and began asking why he was being asked to.

He was said to have become aggressive and was ushered outside by staff.

When police arrived he ran off to Derby Road and when stopped wrapped his arms around railings refusing to comply with police instructions.

Defence advocate Stephen Wood said: ’Whilst Mr Pope was said to have become aggressive there were no injuries.

’He was frustrated and annoyed about being asked to go.

’He accepts he was in a state of intoxication and should have just followed instructions.

’Unfortunately his inability to do so meant he ended up with a night in the cells and before this court.

’He is an army reservist and is worried about the ramifications,’ said Mr Wood.

’He hopes never to appear before the courts again.’
