A series of break-ins and thefts of and from cars are being linked by police.

Two juveniles and an adult woman have been arrested in connection with a mini-crime wave in Laxey, Douglas and Onchan.

Mother T’s Community Centre and Coffee shop in New Road, Laxey, was broken into in the early hours of Tuesday this week, causing £500 worth of losses and damage.

Intruders got in through a window sometime between 2.30am and 3.40am and stole a donations jar containing money in various denominations, and two woollen blankets.

These items were found discarded a short distance away from the premises later the same morning.

Police said the break-in was being linked with another attempted burglary in the village as well as with the theft of vehicles from Laxey and Douglas and the theft of cash from a number of cars in Douglas and Onchan.

Three people were subsequently arrested and a male juvenile and an adult female have been charged and are due to appear before court.

Valerie Miller of Mother T’s posted on Facebook: ’I would like to thank everybody for offering kind words and support.

’Mother T’s was broken into resulting in about £500 worth of loss and damage. It was money that was being targeted so fortunately the many precious and irreplaceable items have not been stolen and the items that have been damaged are all replaceable.

’The biggest loss for me caused by this incident is the belief that something like this would never happen where I live and work.

’I meet many visitors of the island and often boast about the safe and secure lifestyle we enjoy here so I am feeling really sad that has been tainted for me.’

A police spokesman said: ’We thank the public for their help in the above matter.

’It is a timely reminder to please ensure that vehicles are locked and don’t have keys left in them. Some of the offences could have been prevented.’
