A 74-year-old Ramsey man has been fined £500 for careless driving.

Alan David Power, of Ballure Court, admitted the offence and was also ordered by magistrates to pay £50 prosecution costs.

Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court how, on Sunday, March 25, at 1.45am, Power’s Volvo collided with a parked vehicle on Queen’s Grove in Ramsey.

He left the vehicle but was seen going into his home address at Ballure Court.

When police spoke to Power, he told them he had not used his car since Saturday.

He said that he had walked home after being at a restaurant.

In a police interview Power then said he could not recall whether he walked or drove that evening but could give no explanation for damage to his Volvo.

He said that he had been diagnosed by a doctor with a viral infection that caused memory loss.

Defence advocate Paul Rodgers said that his client was an author who had been driving for over 50 years and had no previous convictions.
