A Douglas man has pleaded guilty in summary court to a charge of driving while disqualified.

Gregor Turley, of Creg Ny Baa Back Road, also admitted driving with no insurance and failing to notify a change of ownership.

The court heard how, on January 14 at 8pm, police on patrol on Westmoreland Road in Douglas spotted a Renault Megane said to be in poor condition.

Checks revealed that the registered owner was a woman in her 70s, however the car was being driven by 41-year-old Turley.

Police followed and stopped Turley in a lane behind Buck’s Road.

Turley was identified and he told police that he was banned from driving and had no insurance.

He was banned for 13 months in January 2012 and ordered to retake his test when the ban ended but had never done so.

Turley’s defence advocate Paul Glover said that his client had recently purchased the car to renovate and had only been moving it.

He will be sentenced on May 18.

Bail continues with a condition that Turley attend probation meetings.
