A motorist has admitted breaking a motorcyclist’s arm after crashing his car into him.
Damion Anthony Taggart, of The Bretney, Jurby, pleaded guilty to causing serious bodily harm by driving without due care or consideration.
Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court how, on August 26 at 12.15pm, Taggart, aged 41, was driving a Vauxhall Vivaro van in Ballaugh.
He approached the junction at Ballaugh Bridge via Station Road and then turned right, intending to perform a U-turn to go back along the road he had driven from.
However, as he did two motorcycles were going over the bridge and Taggart hit the second one causing the biker to be thrown from his motorbike. Taggart stopped and helped the injured rider and later admitted to police he had not been paying attention to traffic coming from that direction.
The rider was taken to hospital and diagnosed with a fractured arm.
Mr Kane said compensation was likely to be sought through civil courts.
Advocate Paul Glover asked for the offence to be dealt with on the day by way of a financial penalty but Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said that it was too serious for that.
A probation report will be prepared which Mrs Hughes ordered would consider all options, including custody.
Taggart will be sentenced on February 28. Bail was granted in the sum of £500
