Port Erin Coastguard was called out to rescue a 15-year-old boy stuck on cliffs at Bradda Head last night (Saturday).

The teenager had slipped while taking a photograph and had managed to save himself part-way down, but with a further drop to the sea below.

He dialled 999 for the Coastguard and the Marine Operations Centre tasked the team who began a short search and quickly located the casualty beneath Milner’s Tower, and a significant way down the cliff.

Using the tower to secure rope rescue equipment, a Coastguard volunteer descended about 120 metres to reach the casualty, down a challenging cliff face with a number of overhanging sections.

Once secured, the teenager and his rescuer were winched to the safety of the top of the cliff.

The call-out came at 10.50pm on Saturday.

Following the rescue, the boy’s mum posted: ’Thank you all for rescuing my boy, he is very lucky to have escaped this uninjured. You are amazing!’

The teenager did the right thing by dialling 999 and asking for the Coastguard, said a spokesman for the Port Erin rescue service. ’He was extremely lucky and escaped without injury.’
