A 21-year-old man has been fined £800 for his part in a brawl at St Christopher’s After Care Centre.
We previously reported that 19-year-old Kelly was fined £750 on May 7 after pleading guilty to affray.
Rice pleaded not guilty to the same offence with a pre-trial review set to take place but on Tuesday changed his plea to guilty.
Staff at the after care facility in Hope Street in Douglas called 999 at 2.41pm on April 10.
A witness said Kelly had made a remark about Rice accusing him of ’dobbing him in’ and the pair started fighting.
The witness said the two men were screaming and shouting as they grappled with each other.
Defending Rice, advocate Ian Kermode said: ’Mr Rice would say that, after attending the care centre, he became involved in a dispute with Mr Kelly. Although he would say he didn’t throw the first punch, he did throw a number of punches and had Mr Kelly in a headlock.
’There was no pre-meditation. It was words which led to a physical altercation. Mr Rice accept the force he used was disproportionate. He spent the night in cells after being arrested.
’He wishes to apologise to staff at the centre, there were children present, and he wishes to apologise to your worship. He accepts, in hindsight, he reacted inappropriately to what was said by Mr Kelly.’
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered Kelly to pay £300 prosecution costs.
He will pay the fine and costs at a rate of £10 per week, deducted from benefits.
