Officers from the police economic crime unit executed five search warrants in a number of locations in Douglas and the south of the island in connection with a money laundering investigation.

About 70 officers took part in the search today (Tuesday).

Detective Inspector Darren Richards explained: ’At around 8.30am warrants issued under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2008 were executed looking for evidence in relation to an ongoing money laundering investigation.

’Around 70 officers, including specialist search officers from the Constabulary and members from Isle of Man Customs and Excise are assisting with the search but members of the public should see no change to other routine day to day policing.

’The searches are expected to last at least for the next 24 hours.’
