A Douglas teenager has been fined £600 after a faulty handbrake led to her car rolling down a road and hitting a wall.
Daisy Niamh Jones, 19, of Willaston Crescent, was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs by magistrates after the incident on Derby Road in Douglas.
Prosecutor Michael Jelski told the court how, at 9.20pm on June 12, police were called to Derby Road after a report of a Vauxhall Corsa colliding with a wall.
Officers found the car partly on the pavement. Witnesses said they saw the unoccupied Corsa go down the hill and hit a wall. The test centre found the handbrake cable was frayed but could still be used with ’considerable effort’.
Jones said she parked on Derby Road after it had been repaired by her partner.
Advocate Paul Rodgers said: ’The vehicle had been with her boyfriend to have an alternator fixed. Her boyfriend is an expert in mechanics.’ Jones was fined £150 for having inefficient brakes, £400 for no insurance and £50 for no vehicle licence.
With regard to the insurance and tax, Mr Rodgers explained Jones had been between two vehicles and had ’lost account of those matters’ unintentionally.
