Police are appealing for information after a car hit a rock on the South Quay early tonight.

Officers from the island’s road policing unit attended the area in Douglas to reports that a Ford Fiesta had struck a large rock that was in the road.

This had resulted in damage being caused to the underside of the vehicle which subsequently resulted in a loss of engine oil.

A police statement said: ’It is possible that the rock in question had been deliberately placed into the roadway, causing a danger to road users.’
