A care worker from Douglas has admitted stealing from an elderly couple to buy pornography.
Jordan Luke Heayns, of Murray’s Road, stole a credit card belonging to a man he was caring for and spent £56.23 on seven adult film, magistrates heard.
Heayns, who is 20, admitted offences of theft and fraud by abuse of position when he appeared in court on Thursday.
He will be sentenced on November 22 after a probation report has been completed.
Prosecutor Hazel Carroon told the court how, on February 25, Heayns was working as a live-in carer for a couple living at Majestic Drive, in Onchan.
He worked 24-hour shifts and was in charge of the couple’s welfare.
However, the court heard that a credit card belonging to the man he was caring for had been used to buy pornographic films online.
Heayns was arrested by police and items were seized at his home.
In an interview, he told officers that he suffered from mental health problems due to working long shifts but admitted using the card dishonestly to buy online pornography.
Remorse
Clerk to the justices Stephen Tucker told the court that the maximum penalty for the offence of fraud by abuse of position, when appearing in summary court, was two years’ custody.
Defence advocate Stephen Wood said that his client had no previous convictions, had shown remorse and assisted police with their inquiries.
He added that the offence was of low value.
Magistrates ordered that the probation report should consider all options, including custody.
Bail was granted in the sum of £500.
