A 23-year-old man who crashed his car at Brandish corner on the Mountain Road has been fined £500 for careless driving.

Jordan Matthew James Tweedy, of Rheynn Road, West Baldwin, admitted the offence and also had his licence endorsed with six penalty points. Prosecuting advocate James Robinson told the court that police were called to the accident on August 17 just before 10.50pm.

Tweedy’s Ford Fiesta was in the carriageway with debris and grass on the road.

He told police that he had clipped the bank at the edge of the road causing him to crash.

Tweedy was initially given a fixed penalty notice but was brought to court after he failed to pay it within the allotted time period.

Defence advocate Paul Glover told the court that his client had no previous convictions and asked for credit to be given for his guilty plea and co-operation with the police.

’It was a simple error of judgement on his part. Thankfully no-one was hurt,’ said the advocate. Mr Glover said that Tweedy had neglected to pay the fixed penalty notice due to ill health.

Magistrates’ chair David Craine told Tweedy: ’We appreciate you have been ill but it really is something you should have seen to as that would have been the end of the matter.’

Tweedy was also ordered to pay £50 costs which he will pay along with the fine at a rate of £150 per month.
