The cause of death of a man found in an alleyway in central Douglas has still yet to be established, an inquest heard.

An inquest has opened into the death of Spencer Galvin, 43, who was found in a lane at the rear of Church Road Marina on Monday April 8.

A post mortem found evidence to suggest he had died as a result of a fall from a significant height.

Detective Superintendent Stephen Maddocks said that while police are still examining the circumstances of Mr Galvin’s death, there was no evidence of anything suspicious.

He said further investigations were to be carried out including toxicology tests and this was likely to take a number of weeks.

Police were called to the lane at the rear of Church Road Marina as just before 7.10pm on April 8. Efforts were made at resuscitation but this ultimately proved fruitless.

Six people were initially arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the unexplained death but all were subsequently released without charge.

Birkenhead-born Mr Galvin was unemployed and lived at the Bellsfield Hotel on Church Road Marina.

His body was identified by his doctor Dr Helen Greig who had known him as a patient for eight years.

Adjourning the inquest, Coroner Jayne Hughes said investigations are continuing into the death and a full inquest would be heard in due course.
