Kenneth Patrick McGovern, aged 62, of Harcroft Meadows, and Veronica McGovern, aged 58, of Castle Mona Avenue, were fined £700 each after admitting obstructing police.
Their daughter, Michelle Anne McGovern, aged 38, also of Harcroft Meadows, is yet to enter a plea to assault causing actual bodily harm and disorderly behaviour on licensed premises.
The father and mother struggled with police after their daughter was arrested and a crowd gathered witnessing a melee unfold.
Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court that, on June 7 at 12.15am, Michelle McGovern was asked to leave Jaks by security staff.
She is alleged to have bitten a bouncer on the arm while she was escorted out.
Police arrived and she was taken away from crowds into Granville Street and arrested.
At this point, her mother Veronica arrived clutching a bottle and poured its contents over an officer during a scuffle.
The mother was said to be smelling of alcohol and unsteady on her feet, demanding that police release her daughter.
She was told to leave the scene but tried to push past officers then demanded that she be arrested as well.
She continued to be abusive and refused to leave.
At this point Kenneth McGovern, the father, arrived amid what were described as ’chaotic’ scenes due to a number of people having gathered.
The father also demanded that his daughter be released and attempted to push police away from her.
At this point police were said to be surrounded by members of the public making their job more complicated.
Kenneth McGovern continued to try to free his daughter and was also arrested along with his wife.
Ian Kermode, representing Veronica McGovern, said that his client had no previous convictions.
’Mrs McGovern intends to leave the island to live with family in the next few months. There was an incident outside Jaks in TT week. Understandably perhaps, given the fact Michelle McGovern was being apprehended by police, her mother was concerned by what was happening. She accepts she shouldn’t have got involved in the way she did.
’There was a melee. Mrs McGovern accepts she pushed her way through and has been abusive to officers.’
Kenneth McGovern was represented by Andrew Baker who said: ’It was a family do. They were blowing off steam after a period of quite stressful time in the family.
’Mr McGovern came to the incident quite late. In hindsight, he wouldn’t have waded in but he did. He does blame it on the drink. He said police have got better things to do in TT week. He is normally a role model. He is a business owner.’
The court heard that Veronica McGovern has no previous convictions while her husband’s last conviction was in 2002.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said: ’This was a disgraceful incident during the TT period when the Isle of Man is on show.
’It must have been quite frightening for the police with a crowd gathering around. Police ended up surrounded by a group of individuals.’
Both Kenneth McGovern and Veronica McGovern were also banned from entering licensed premises and purchasing or being sold alcohol for three months.
They must both also pay £125 prosecution costs each.
Michelle McGovern will appear in court again on July 4 with bail granted in the sum of £500.
