A 55-year-old chef has been fined £900 after threatening a love rival during a pub row over his ex-girlfriend.
Darren Michael Bardsley admitted disorderly behaviour on licensed premises.
Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that Bardsley was drinking in the Rosemount pub in Douglas on November 8 at 8pm.
The woman, who was said to be the designated official at the pub, said that there had been issues with Bardsley during the night.
At around 10pm, the woman’s new partner came into the pub and at first, Bardsley was said to have been friendly towards him.
However, Bardsley was then said to have become aggressive and was asked to leave the pub.
This prompted him to start swearing, telling his love rival: ’She’s mine. I’m going to kill you.’
Police were called to the pub but Bardsley, who lives in Brighton Terrace, Douglas, had left by this time and was later arrested at 1886 bar.
When interviewed he admitted his behaviour to police.
Defence advocate Michael Mudge said that his client was a self-employed chef and asked that he be spared any ban from entering licensed premises.
Mr Mudge said that it had been a domestic incident which had got out of hand.
’He saw his ex-partner with her new partner and he saw red,’ said the advocate.
’He wishes to apologise. He has co-operated with the police and been in police custody since Sunday night.’
The advocate went on to say that Bardsley had suffered mental health issues following a bereavement.
The court heard that Bardsley has no previous convictions.
Deputy High Bailiff Chris Arrowsmith ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £125, which he will pay, along with the fine, at a rate of £40 per week.
