Three young children are being treated in Noble’s after apparently taking drugs they had found.
Police were called to the area of the Bowl at National Sports Centre shortly after 2.30pm yesterday (Thursday) following concerns for the welfare of a young child.
It was established that the child was in need of medical attention following a reaction to an unknown substance which they had ingested.
Subsequently three young children, all aged between 11 and 12, were admitted to Noble’s for treatment and care.
The three children remain in the intensive care unit where there condition is said to be stable.
The type of substance found and ingested by the children has not been identified by the police but samples were taken to Noble’s Hospital for analysis to assist in the medical care.
Police say that the children had found the substance in the upper Douglas area earlier that day.
A member of the public contacted the emergency services after becoming concerned at the behaviour of one of the children at the back of the Bowl.
Inspector Juan Kinley said: ’There has been much speculation and rumour as to the condition of the children on social media which is incorrect.
’I can confirm that three young children remain in Noble’s hospital in a stable condition receiving medical treatment.
’We are continuing an investigation into the circumstances of how the children came to have possession of the substance, but we believe that it was found by them earlier in the day in the Douglas town area.
’The public are reminded that if they find any unknown substances to hand them to the police or local pharmacy. The public are reminded of the real dangers of taking any unknown substances and this type of incident just underlines the consequences.’
