The Christmas anti-drink drive operation begins today across the island.
Headed by the Roads Policing Unit and supported by uniformed officers and special constables, the annual operation targets those who either drink or drug drive.
Officers will work extended shifts throughout what is known as a month of socialising and will be both overt and covert in their methods.
A spokesman said: ’The Constabulary would also remind vehicle drivers of their responsibilities the ’morning after’. Ask yourselves if you are fit to be behind the wheel, if there is a doubt please err on the side of caution and do not drive.
’Drink driving and drug driving is totally unacceptable and the consequences are huge to all those involved. Please take a moment to think about your actions if you are tempted to get behind the wheel.
’Let’s end a torrid 2020 by staying safe and making the right decisions this festive period.’
There were 16 arrests made as part of the operation last year.
