An off-duty police officer has been fined for careless driving after she pulled out on to the Mountain Road in front of a motorist.

Sophie Lillian Dvorakova’s case was dealt with by magistrates last week.

She was fined £500 for the offence.

The 30-year-old officer did not appear in court but she sent a postal admission to the offence.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court how a road traffic accident occurred at the junction of the A18 Mountain Road and Tholt-y-Will on February 22 at 4.45pm.

Dvorakova, of Governor’s Hill, Douglas, was driving a Nissan Qashqai while the other driver was behind the wheel of a Rover 75.

Mr Swain said that the evidence was that Dvorakova had thought the other driver was indicating and she pulled out in front of him.

The collision between the two cars was described as a ’slight deflection’. No serious injuries were caused.

When interviewed by officers, Dvorakova said that prior to the collision she had been speaking on a hands-free device.

The court heard that a witness had mentioned that they thought she was on a phone but Dvorakova said she had only picked up the phone after the collision.

The court heard that Dvorakova has a clean driving licence.

In addition to the fine, magistrates endorsed her driving licence with six penalty points.

She must also pay prosecution costs of £50.
