A 36-year-old Douglas man has been bound over to keep the peace for 12 months.

Matthew Ian Gaynor, of Rosehill Mews, had charges against him of common assault on a female and property damage withdrawn after accepting the binding order.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that police received a 999 call from a woman at her home on September 12 at 7.49pm.

A further call was received from a civilian passing the woman’s house who heard shouting coming from inside.

Police arrived and arrested Gaynor, who is the woman’s former partner. She said he had refused to leave her house and had grabbed her around the neck, then stopped her from leaving.

When interviewed Gaynor said he had not touched her.

Defence advocate Peter Taylor said that his client did not accept the allegations mentioned in the prosecution case but did accept that his behaviour fell below the standard expected and therefore agreed to accept the binding order.
