A man has been jailed after driving while he was disqualified three times in a month and a half.
Callum Duane Clarke, aged 29, of Berrywoods Avenue, Douglas, admitted committing the offence three times as well as two counts of driving with no insurance and one of taking a vehicle without consent.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes sentenced him to a total of 24 weeks’ custody and banned him from driving for two years.
Defence advocate Paul Glover said that Clarke had told probation: ’I have a good heart and head most of the time but I do silly things. I need to grow up.’
The advocate said: ’Mr Clarke has been very truthful and frank regarding his recent behaviour. He is looking for employment as a handyman but those plans will be scuppered somewhat by the inevitable driving ban.’
Clarke was charged with driving whilst disqualified on August 30, October 4 and October 13.
Mr Glover said: ’Rather unusually the message hasn’t got through after being stopped once he’s gone and committed the same offence again. He knows he has run out of opportunities and strikes. The only person who can stop himself getting into this situation is Mr Clarke.
Mr Hughes said: ’He just needs to keep out of cars doesn’t he?’
The court heard that Clarke has served 30 days on remand as well as three days in police custody.
The Deputy High Bailiff told Clarke while passing sentence: ’You continued to drive despite being stopped by police.’
