The Douglas RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat was launched on Wednesday morning at after a seven-metre yacht on passage to Stranraer had run into problems off Langness.

The crew of two had found it difficult to make way against the tide and weather around the peninsular and with their engine running low on fuel, they radioed the Coastguard for assistance.

The all-weather lifeboat, under the command of coxswain Edd Christian, headed south out of Douglas on a calm sea and with increasing light quickly found the casualty vessel. Having ensured that the two people on board were not in need of any immediate assistance, the yacht was taken under tow back to Douglas and safely berthed at the Visitors’ Pontoon on the Battery Pier. The yacht was refuelled and it then left the island without the crew leaving the vessel.
