A woman whose car hit a parked car while she was over the drink-drive limit has been banned from driving for two years.

Sarah Catherine Lace, aged 23, of Willaston Crescent, Douglas, admitted failing a blood alcohol test with a reading of 127 - the legal limit is 80.

She must also retake her test at the end of her ban.

Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court how, on August 8, police were called to the Strang Road in Braddan.

Lace had been involved in an accident and told police: ’I had two glasses of wine. The accident was my fault.’

She was unable to provide a sample of breath at police headquarters saying her chest hurt so a blood sample was taken.

Defence advocate Kate Alexander said: ’Ms Lace had been at a friend’s and had a takeaway. She last had a drink at 11pm and the matter occurred at 2.52am.

’A period of time had passed and she thought she would be OK to drive.

’She made the foolish mistake of driving home. She can’t explain why she had the accident.

’No one was hurt.

’It was a parked vehicle and insurance have dealt with matters.’

Ms Alexander said her client already had eight points on her licence but she knew she was going to be disqualified in any event.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said: ’It is never safe to assume alcohol has left one’s system after a few hours or when you think you feel alright to drive.’

The defendant was also fined £900 and must pay £125 prosecution costs.
