A 23-year-old Ramsey man has admitted eight driving-related offences, including drink-driving and driving while disqualified.

Callum Robert King, of Balleigh Park, will be sentenced on October 3 after the preparation of a probation report.

The court heard how, on August 6 at 12.50am, police received a ’999’ call reporting a car crash at Garey Road in Lezayre.

When they arrived at the scene a witness said that King had overtaken her on a bend and hit a wall at the junction.

Police found King’s Fiesta unattended with a large amount of front end damage.

Officers went to the address the Fiesta was registered to but were told that the car had been sold to King.

When police went to King’s home he was said to have cuts on his hands, a ripped t-shirt and appeared intoxicated.

He was taken to police headquarters and a breathalyser test produced a reading of 61 - the legal limit is 35.

King was also said to only hold a provisional licence, despite not displaying ’L’ plates and was also disqualified from driving.

He told police he had been out in Ramsey but had gone home. He said he had gone out again to pick up a friend but had crashed.

He admitted throwing the keys and part of the car’s bumper into a field before running off from the scene.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes accepted jurisdiction and King will be sentenced in summary court.

Bail was granted.
