A drink-driver has won back his driving licence two months early after a ban.

Steven Adam Harris was banned in August 2018 for three years after crashing his friend’s car while he was drunk and failing a breathalyser test with a 79 reading. The legal limit is 35. The ban was due to end in August this year but on Tuesday the 29-year-old’s application to restore his licence two months early was granted by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

He will still need to pass an extended driving test before driving unsupervised again.

Harris, of Greyfriars Close, Ballabeg, represented himself in court and said that a driver had recently left his company and it would be helpful to his employer if he could have his licence back early. A letter was handed in from his employer.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon said that she was not opposing the early restoration of the licence as there had been no further offending.

Mrs Hughes agreed to the restoration but said that Harris will still need to apply for a provisional licence initially.
