A 26-year-old Port Erin plumber has been fined £800 and banned from driving for 12 months after admitting drink-driving.
Ryan Dean Knighton, of Magherdonnagh, failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 49 - the legal limit is 35 - and was also ordered to retake his test at the end of the ban.
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court how, on July 8, police reporting seeing Knighton driving a BMW at speed on the main road in Colby.
He was stopped and said to be smelling slightly of alcohol. He failed a roadside breath test and was taken to police headquarters.
After failing the breathalyser test with the reading of 49 he was offered a blood test. The law states if a reading is below 50 a blood test can be requested.
The blood analysis produced a reading of not less than 100 - the legal limit is 80.
Defence advocate David Reynolds said that his client had consumed two pints of lager earlier in the day and thought he was fit to drive.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said: ’The reading was relatively low but you took a risk that a great many people take. You were clearly over the limit from the blood test.’
