A drink-driver has won back his licence a year early after completing five years of a six-year ban.

Glenn Moore, of Harcroft Meadow, Douglas, was jailed for 10 weeks and banned from driving for six years in 2014 for drink-driving after he crashed into the back of a car at traffic lights.

But on Tuesday, High Bailiff Jayne Hughes restored the 45-year-old’s licence to him a year early.

Moore was involved in a three-car crash at the traffic lights at the junction of the New Castletown Road and Anagh Coar Lane on August 31, 2014 while driving a BMW from a wedding at Mount Murray into Douglas.

He was more than twice the legal drink-drive limit when he drove into the back of a Fiat Panda, which went into the back of a Peugeot.

The Panda’s driver and passenger were taken to hospital with whiplash injuries.

The court heard Moore had committed no further offences.

Advocate Jim Travers said: ’My submission is that this has been a significant wake-up call.

’The custodial sentence had its desired effect it would appear. There is nothing on his record since 2014.’

Mr Travers said Moore was having contact with his young son and that his father was in poor health, both of which would benefit from him being able to drive again.

The advocate continued: ’Mr Moore is a sub contractor for a furniture business in Ramsey. He gets public transport to work and relies on a work colleague to get around. The bulk of his work is as a carpet fitter.’

Mrs Hughes said she was satisfied that the disqualification could be removed early but Moore will still have to pass an extended driving test before he can drive again.

In the meantime he may drive on a provisional licence under supervision.
