A woman who crashed into a parked car after drinking half a bottle of gin has been banned from driving for three years.
A child passenger was taken to hospital with minor injuries after banging their head.
Nicola Whitlam-Beckett, of Farrants Park, Castletown, failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 85 - 35 is the legal limit.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes fined the 35-year-old £1,000 and banned her from driving for three years.
Prosecutor James Robinson told the court that Whitlam-Beckett was driving a Nissan Qashqai in Castletown on April 27 at 10.45pm.
She went to overtake a parked car near Castletown swimming pool but hit it causing it to rotate nearly 90 degrees.
The back of the parked vehicle then hit a cottage.
When police arrived, Whitlam-Beckett was said to be unsteady on her feet and slurring her words.
She was arrested and interviewed at police headquarters where she said she had been drinking and had consumed half a bottle of gin at a friend’s house.
Defence advocate Peter Taylor said: ’This is one of these matters where someone without any previous convictions makes a misjudgement that she hasn’t had as much to drink.
’The references speak highly of her. The loss of her licence will hit her hard.’
A probation report said that Whitlam-Beckett said she suffers from anxiety and depression and had indicated she would be unlikely to drink alcohol again.
High Bailiff Mrs Hughes said: ’Half a bottle of gin isn’t a "misjudgement".’
She added that she hoped the fact a child had been in the car and was injured had brought home to Whitlam-Beckett the dangers of driving after having consumed alcohol.
Whitlam-Beckett must also retake her test at the end of her ban and attend a drink-driving rehabilitation course.
She was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
