A 43-year-old Castletown woman has been fined £400 for driving without insurance. after the policy was cancelled due to non-payment.

Sally Jackson, of Y Vaarney Yiarg, also had her licence endorsed with five penalty points after admitting the offence.

Prosecuting, advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that Jackson was stopped by police on September 19 at 6.25pm while driving a Citroen Synergie.

She told police she did not have her insurance certificate on her but was insured to drive so she was given five days to produce her documents.

On September 24, she went to Castletown police station with a certificate with a start date of January 22. But the insurance company said it had been cancelled due to non payment of the premium.

Jackson was given six points in March for an identical offence committed in January, and prompted her to take out the policy.

Defence advocate Paul Rodgers said the case was ’unusually complex’ as Jackson had produced a certificate which showed insurance commencing on January 22 and she thought she was insured.

The insurance brokers said that it was cancelled due to non-payment after two warning letters were sent. Mr Rodgers said his client did not recall receiving any letters.
