A man who has already lost his driving licence has admitted drink-driving, driving while banned and dangerous driving.

Geraint Hughes, aged 37, failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 99. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction when he appeared in court on Thursday.

They said that the offences were too serious for summary court and committed Hughes to the Court of General Gaol Delivery where he will be sentenced on November 27.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that Hughes was banned from driving in June 2018 for three years.

Despite this, police received a 999 call reporting a Toyota Yaris being driven by Hughes at speed on Lezayre Road in Ramsey on April 24.

Reports said that Hughes had driven towards Sulby then back to Ramsey.

He then approached Parliament Square where his car broke down and was pushed onto the EVF forecourt with him sitting inside, steering it.

Hughes was then said to have become involved in an incident with someone which prompted him to leave the area on foot.

Police found him where he lives in North Shore Road, Ramsey, and he was subsequently arrested.

At police headquarters he failed the breathalyser test with the reading of 99.

When interviewed he gave ’no comment’ responses to all questions.

Defence advocate Jane Gray asked for a probation report to be prepared before sentencing.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions that Hughes live at his home address, does not buy or consume alcohol in public, contacts probation, and does not leave the island without court consent.
