A woman who drove through a stop sign and crashed into another car has been fined £600.

Sarah Marie Bell admitted careless driving and two counts of having defective tyres.

Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks also endorsed her licence with six points.

Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that Bell, who is 34, was driving her Renault Scenic at the junction of Alexander Drive and Albany Road in Douglas on June 27 when she collided with a Nissan Note.

Bell suffered two fractures to her spine and the other driver suffered only minor injuries.

A breathalyser test produced a negative result.

responsibility

The Renault was taken to the test centre and found to have two defective tyres.

When interviewed Bell accepted responsibility for the accident saying she had not seen the stop sign due to trees and the sun.

Defence advocate Andrew Baker said that his client’s main concern had been the health of the other driver and that she had no points on her licence.

’She is not familiar with that road. The stop sign was obscured so maybe that can be addressed,’ said the advocate.

Deputy High Bailiff Mr Brooks also ordered Bell, who lives in Derby Road in Peel, to pay £50 prosecution cost and she will pay at a rate of £20 per week deducted from benefits.
