A 38-year-old Douglas man has been convicted of bringing drugs to the island after a package was sent to his neighbour’s address in error.

Stephen George May, of Hailwood Avenue, admitted ordering the cannabis then ordering a second package when he thought the first hadn’t arrived.

May pleaded guilty to production of cannabis to the island and possession of the drug and will be sentenced on May 22 after the preparation of a probation report.

Prosecutor Richard Butters told the court that the first package containing 29 grams of cannabis and worth £580 had gone to May’s neighbour’s house.

The neighbour informed the police when they discovered the drugs and an investigation led to a search of May’s house.

Police found more cannabis at the house, weighing 21.8 grams and 1.2 grams, worth £436 and £24 respectively.

When interviewed by police he said he had ordered the drugs in the name of K May, as he had got the name wrong.

When the drugs hadn’t arrived he ordered some more and these were the ones in his house. May said the cannabis was all for his own use.

Advocate David Reynolds asked for the adjournment for the probation report to be prepared.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said the report should consider all options, including custody.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500, with a condition he contacts probation.
