A 27-year-old Douglas man has been fined £300 by Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes for being drunk and disorderly.
Ashley Jones, of Marathon Road, admitted the offence and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court how, on October 21 at midday, police were at an address in Marathon Road dealing with a different matter.
Jones was seen by officers to punch a wooden door panel and split it. He was said to be swearing at the time but unaware of police watching him.
He was spoken to and became aggressive, having to be restrained by officers.
A criminal damage charge relating to the door panel was not pursued after the owner was said to be unwilling to pursue a complaint.
convictions
The court heard that Jones has only one previous conviction in the last seven years.
Defence advocate Ian Kermode asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea and said: ’Mr Jones accepts he had been drinking.
’There was a misunderstanding which led to him being frustrated. He accepts he was obstructive and swearing. He has asked me to apologise to the court and police for his drunken conduct.’
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said while passing sentence: ’Your behaviour was obviously unacceptable.’
