A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to community service for being drunk and disorderly.

Daniel Brew pleaded guilty to the offence and was also banned from buying or being sold alcohol for three months.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court how police were called to Mona Drive in Douglas on June 22 in the early hours after a report of a disturbance.

When officers arrived Brew was being restrained by a friend and was said to be shouting loudly and clearly drunk.

He continued to act aggressively and swear and was subsequently arrested.

Defence advocate David Reynolds asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea and said that Brew had mental health issues.

Mr Reynolds said that Brew, of Marathon Road, Douglas, had said he had been waiting 21 months for mental health support, though he had undergone assessments.

Brew said that he had been self-medicating with alcohol and had been receiving some support from St Christopher’s.

A probation report said that Brew would benefit from the routine and focus of community service and that he was keen to undertake it.

Mr Reynolds asked that his client be spared a ban from licensed premises as he was looking for work in the hospitality trade where he had previously worked.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered Brew to do 60 hours unpaid work.
