A biker from Douglas who was so drunk he fell off his bike outside Tesco has been convicted of drink-driving.
Rhys Allan Manning, aged 33, of Central Promenade, pleaded guilty to the charge in the magistrates’ court and will be sentenced on July 18. after the preparation of a probation report.
A breathalyser test produced a reading of 149 - the legal limit is 35.
The court heard how, on February 28 at 11.55pm, police were on patrol near Tesco in Lake Road, Douglas, when they heard an alarm sounding.
When they investigated they found Manning sitting on the pavement beside his bike which had fallen over.
He was said to be smelling of alcohol, had glazed eyes and was swaying from side to side when he stood.
He had the ignition keys in his hand and was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
He told police: ’I’m just having a bad night’.
In a police interview Manning admitted he had ridden from the Bridge pub to Tesco and at the time he was intoxicated.
He was remanded in custody but his advocate Deborah Myerscough said that a bail application may be made next week.
