A fisherman who took his boss’s car without permission was approaching double the drink drive limit, a court was told.
Jack Edwards, aged 22, of Corrin’s Way, Peel, was seen in the Peveril pub by the car’s owner, as he parked on the quayside outside the adjacent harbourmaster’s office and left the car with the keys inside.
Prosecutor, Richard Butters, told the court that on a separate occasion Edwards was seen by police in Atholl Street, Peel, driving the Citroen Berlingo.
He was stopped at Campion Crescent and was said to be unsteady on his feet but when asked if he had been drinking, Edwards told police he had had one pint.
He failed a breathalyser test with the reading of 65 (the drink drive limit is 35) and admitted he had taken his boss’s car without his permission.
Edwards also admitted having no insurance and failing to conform to a traffic direction.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ruled out custody but said a community penalty was most likely.
Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with a condition not to drive and he will be sentenced on November 20 after the preparation of a probation report.
