A man who got embroiled in an altercation with staff at a Douglas pub is now waiting to be sentenced.
Kyle John Berry, of Quarterbridge Road in Douglas, admitted assaulting a bouncer at the Nag’s Head pub on Victoria Street when he was told to leave.
But the precise details of the exchange will have to be assessed at a special hearing before he can be sentenced.
According to prosecutor Michael Jelski, 28-year-old Berry turned up at the pub with two friends at around 3.30am on April 2, as the premises were shutting.
Door staff asked them to leave but Berry refused. Each time he was asked, Berry became increasingly belligerent so bouncers used ’reasonable force’ to eject him. This prompted an outburst which culminated in Berry hitting a bouncer in the face.
On being arrested, he told police he did not remember what had happened but admitted the offence on the understanding he did not shout or gesticulate aggressively, the force used on him was not reasonable, he was provoked, and the blow was with an open hand not a fist. Precise facts are to be established at a hearing which takes place on May 25.
