Children, their parents and guardians got to see behind the scenes at Peel fire station at the weekend.

Water hoses were blasted, faces were painted, cakes were eaten and donations were made at the annual Peel fire station open day.

The event took place at Heathfield Drive on Sunday and raised a total of £1,500 for charity through a raffle that was run on the day.

Over the course of three hours, a lot of excitement was provided by crew members who gave a snippet of what their jobs entail to dozens of people who swung by the station.

Some of the station’s guests were lucky enough to get a view of the seaside village from up high on the aerial ladder platform (ALP) fire appliance.

The vehicle showed families just how brave firefighters need to be in order to work at dizzying heights under pressure.

Strapped in with safety gear, they got to peer down at the busy scene beneath them and more.

The opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat in the fire engine also proved very popular with the younger guests wearing firefighting helmets.

Children got to meet the fire service mascot, a spotty dalmatian, and have a go on an automatic ride with Fireman Sam - based on the well-loved kids animated programme - in his mini fire engine.
