A woman who was found drunk at Douglas bus station has been fined £125 and banned from purchasing or being sold alcohol for three months.

Members of the public called police reporting that Catherine Amy Heidstrom was passed out on a bench.

The 27-year-old, who lives at Close Malew, Castletown, pleaded guilty to being found drunk in a public place and was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs by Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court how the incident occurred on August 10 when police received a call from a civilian at 10pm.

Heidstrom was said to be passed out on a seat but when police arrived she was sat slouched, talking to a member of the public.

belligerent

Police tried to communicate with her so that they could take her home but she refused and became belligerent which resulted in her being arrested.

The court heard that she has previously been subject to a licensing ban.

Defence advocate Paul Glover asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea and said that the prosecution facts were accepted.

The advocate said: ’Her last conviction was four years ago though it is accepted alcohol has been a bit of a theme in her offending history.

’Ms Heidstrom had not been out for some time and had curbed her drinking.’

Mr Glover went on to say that, on the night in question, Heidstrom had been out with a friend but they had left her.

’She understands that the police have better things to do,’ said the advocate.

’There is no suggestion of violence or verbal abuse. She has simply been too drunk to care for herself.’

Deputy High Bailiff Mr Brooks ordered Heidstrom to pay the fine and costs at a rate of £10 per week.
