A 21-year-old has been fined £275 for being drunk and disorderly after a row outside a pub in Douglas.
Mario Rui Martins Vieira, of Crosby Terrace, Douglas, had previously denied the offence but changed his plea to guilty last week, with a second charge of obstructing police being dismissed.
Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the court that police were called to Castle Street on July 14 at 10.50pm.
When they arrived, Vieira was outside O’Donnell’s pub after a disturbance had taken place inside.
Vieira was not involved in the disturbance but he began arguing with police officers, shouting and swearing, saying that he had just bought a full drink.
Police tried to reason with him but Vieira continued arguing for around 10 minutes.
He refused to give police his name and officers decided he was likely to re-enter the pub if they left but he then ran off.
He was pursued and was found hiding on the basement stairwell of the Mountain Warehouse shop nearby.
Frustrated
Defence advocate Jane Gray said: ’On the evening in question, there was a disturbance in O’Donnell’s.
’However, Mr Vieira was not involved.
’He was the one who asked bar staff to call the police.
’This offence relates to his actions post that incident. He said he had gone outside as he could see someone had picked up his jumper.
’Police spoke to him and said he was drunk. He denied this.
’However, looking back at the bodycam footage, he was lightly intoxicated, but not to a scale where he was falling around.
’He acknowledges his behaviour was disorderly. He was very frustrated.
’He couldn’t understand why he wasn’t going to be allowed back in.
’But he is aware he should have left the scene when police asked him to do so.’
Vieira was also ordered to pay £300 prosecution costs.
