The fire service has revealed more details about yesterday’s fire at a waste pit at the energy from waste plant (incinerator).

It sent two major pumping appliances and a water bowser.

Douglas crews were called at 2.40pm to the facility off Richmond Hill on the main route between Douglas and the south.

Fire crews were faced with a large amount of smoke coming from the pit area.

Breathing apparatus teams were deployed with jets to tackle the fire and dampen down surrounding areas.

The fire was contained to one side of the pit.

However, due to the fire being deep routed, one fire appliance remained there throughout the night working with the staff at the energy from waste plant, who have continued to turn over the fire and dampen it down with water.

Crews left scene at 7am today.
