Crews responding to a hotel fire in Douglas this morning aided a woman who was unaccounted for.

At 10.20am this morning, fire officers were called to respond to a kitchen fire at the Ellan Vannin Hotel on Loch Promenade.

On arrival the Officer in Charge of the first appliance identified smoke issuing from the rear of the property.

A breathing apparatus team were deployed and quickly located a well-developed fire that was extinguished using a high-pressure hose reel.

As the first team was extinguishing the fire, a second team made entry through the front of the premises to search for a resident who was unaccounted for.

A spokesman said: ’A lady was found and brought safely out to fresh air.

’Once the fire was extinguished, crews checked for hot spots with thermal imaging cameras and then ventilated the smoke logged property using a positive pressure ventilation fan.’

The fire led to Douglas Promenades being closed for some time earlier today.
