Fire crews extinguished flames from a burning shed in Santon.

Douglas and Castletown fire crews were called to a reported shed fire on Ballavale Road at 7pm yesterday (Saturday).

On arrival the officer in charge of the first appliance quickly identified smoke issuing from the shed and a breathing apparatus team was deployed to fight the blaze.

The fire was identified and tackled using high-pressure hose reels from within the structure and from a ladder as it had broken through the roof of the shed.

Following this, crews checked for hot spots with thermal imaging cameras. They remained in attendance approximately an hour.

There were several call outs to fires across the island yesterday, including a garden fire in Onchan, a bin fire at Summerhill Glen in Douglas caused by a poorly discarded disposable barbecue and a gorse fire in Ramsey.
